GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Solomon Patton turned two short receptions into touchdowns, helping No. 18 Florida beat Arkansas 30-10 Saturday night.

The 5-foot-9 senior nicknamed “Solo” was pretty close to being a one-man show in the Swamp.

Patton finished with six catches for a career-high 124 yards. He also ran for a first down. But his longest gains went the distance and were key to Florida (4-1, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) winning its ninth consecutive game in the series and 10th in a row at home.  more…

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Tyler Murphy‘s comfort passing and running belied the fact that he was making his first career start for No. 20 Florida. Matt Jones showed that he could hold on the ball and carry it for a lot of yards.

By raising their games, both players help lift the Gators after a difficult week.

Jones rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown and Murphy threw for 156 yards and a score as Florida beat Kentucky 24-7 on Saturday night, its 27th straight win over the Wildcats.  more…

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The second Jeff Driskel started waving for help, Florida coach Will Muschamp knew it was bad.

It turned out to be the worst-case scenario.

Driskel broke his lower right leg Saturday in the first quarter of the 19th-ranked Gators’ 31-17 victory over Tennessee, a season-ending injury that thrust seldom-used backup Tyler Murphy onto the field for the most significant action of his four-year career.

Murphy responded better than anyone could have realistically expected.  more…

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Stephen Morris threw two first-quarter touchdown passes, and Miami took advantage of Florida giving the ball away on four red-zone opportunities on the way to knocking off the 12th-ranked Gators 21-16 on Saturday.

Duke Johnson added a 2-yard touchdown run with 3:29 left to make it 21-9 Miami (2-0), which has won four straight games for the first time since 2008 and will almost certainly return to the AP Top 25 on Sunday for the first time since 2010.

Jeff Driskel threw for a career-best 291 yards and had a 21-yard touchdown pass to Solomon Patton with 2:08 left for the Gators (1-1), who lost three fumbles, had two passes intercepted and were stopped once on downs. Driskel also ran for a touchdown.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mack Brown had a career day, Jeff Driskel was efficient and No. 10 Florida opened the season with a 24-6 victory over Toledo on Saturday.  Brown ran 25 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Driskel completed 17 of 22 passes for 153 yards and a score. And Florida’s defense, which ranked fifth in the country in 2012, looked every bit as good as last year’s version despite losing eight starters and its coordinator.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida went 0-for-October last season, with humbling losses to Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia.

It bothered coaches and players for a year.

It motivated them, too.

A year later, the Gators have a chance to end the month with a division title.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mike Gillislee ran for a career-high 146 yards and two touchdowns, bringing No. 10 Florida to life in the second half as the Gators beat fourth-ranked LSU 14-6 Saturday.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The latest game in the Kentucky-Florida series went about like the previous four: the Gators took the lead early and won in lopsided fashion.

Jeff Driskel accounted for two touchdowns, and No. 14 Florida beat Kentucky 38-0 Saturday for its 26th consecutive win in the Southeastern Conference series.  more…

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Florida running back Mike Gillislee, who suffered an injury to his groin last week in the win against Texas A&M, went through warm-ups and appeared to move well.

Gillislee will definitely be worth watching Saturday night. He’s the SEC’s leading rusher through two games and the centerpiece of the Gators’ offense. If he’s not 100 percent or can’t finish the game, that’s a huge blow for Florida.   more…
